Sunday 11 September: The Parting of the Red Sea

The Bible should be read sensitively, imaginatively, spiritually and almost never literally.   The myth of the parting of the Red Sea is intended for spiritual reflection. Moses was not Charlton Heston and God is not Cecil B DeMille.

Sunday 18 September: The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard

On a plain or literal interpretation of Scripture, the parable of the workers in the vineyard offends reason and justice:  it is economic nonsense.   However, it is in fact a spiritual teaching about the nature and generosity of God.
