Youth and Children's Ministry
From Mayfield Salisbury Church Website
Our church offers activities and worship to a large number of Children and young adults. At the moment there are seventy-four registered users aged between zero and eighteen years! With services of worship and education we aim to provide a stimulating space of spiritual reflection for all ages.
Our 9.30 services of worship on Sunday mornings are designed with families in mind, offering spaces of worship and learning which are-age appropriate and allowing all, from young children through to adults, to leave feeling that they have experienced a time of worship and learning. This is achieved through an informal but spiritual time of worship partnered with high quality Sunday School provision. Our Sunday School is very busy and offers spaces of worship and learning for children from naught up!
This work is enhanced by our youth communities - Chill Out Zone for nine to thirteen year olds and Breakfast Club aimed at fourteen to eighteen year olds. Chill Out Zone (COZ) meets in the church hall for pizza, games and a hands-on experience of learning and worship. If you’re too old for COZ then maybe the Breakfast Club’s the place for you. A group for fourteen to eighteen year olds, the breakfast club meets to gather, gossip, have fun and relax over croissants and pastries even though it may be a Saturday night... after all, any time can be breakfast time!
Both these groups allow young people a safe and educational space where they can gather, gossip, learn and access advice should they require any. These communities meet twice a month. Breakfast Club has been running all through the year and Chill Out Zone started meeting nearer the end of 2007. Outside the arranged meetings many of the young people also gather at our family service of worship on a Sunday morning.
As well as these clubs Mayfield Salisbury is also involved in an important project with St Margaret’s School for Girls, our local School. The church makes available the services of its full time youth and children’s worker to the school, there he offers services of one on one work with teenagers who are struggling as well as assisting the school in its Childline in Partnership with Schools Peer Support programme.

Angus Adams
Mayfield Salisbury’s Director of Youth and Children’s Ministry, Angus Adams, comes to the church with much experience in the field of youth and children’s work. He has been involved in church based work with younger people for ten years now and has been a full time Christian youth worker for the last three.
Angus is always game for a laugh and his up-beat demeanour permeates much of his work; his sessions with children and young people are set in a relaxed environment making space for fun and laughter mixed with times of reflection, prayer and worship.
Do not be fooled by Angus’ laid back appearance; he is also a stickler for best practice and strives to see Mayfield Salisbury meet professional standards in the safeguarding of young people as well as the training and development of volunteers.
Angus was educated firstly at North Berwick High School before studying theology at Edinburgh University where he graduated with a 2:1 honours degree in Divinity. His passion for Youth mission was evident even at that stage; his honours dissertation was a study of youth community and a reflection on the ministry possibilities that arose. In keeping with the wider ethos of Mayfield Salisbury, Angus’ ministry is one which hopes to stretch its users. It is not unusual to find difficult and challenging issues being tackled by people of all ages within the many different communities for young people that Mayfield Salisbury offers.
Angus is a lay Heart of Midlothian fan, he loves to watch bad American dramas on TV, his favourite colour is blue and his hair colour (at time of going to print) is purple! For any other information on either the ministry or his hair colour just drop him an e mail!
