Afternoon Service

 AFTERNOON PILGRIMAGES

Our first of two special 'Pilgrimage' Afternoon Services was held on Tuesday 14th May at 2.30 pm in the Upper Hall, when the Minister, Revd. Scott McKenna., officiated.

The short Service on the theme of Pilgrimage included hymns, prayers and meditation, in which Scott McKenna stressed that however far away or close at hand a pilgrimage journey takes us, the important journey is the inner journey, the journey into God.

During the service beautiful pebbles and prayer cards were distributed so that all participants would have something at home to remind them of the presence of God within them and around them.

The service  was followed by afternoon tea and fellowship until approx. 4 pm and, as usual, we all remained seated throughout.

Later the Session Clerk, on behalf of Session, wrote as follows: What a lovely service this afternoon and all the arrangements which wrapped around it: the care you had taken with laying out the hall down to the beautiful flowers and napkins; the stones collected & brought and the little cards so well designed and meaningful.  The tea was much enjoyed and the conversation was animated – a real sense of fellowship is developing among those folk who see so little of one another.  It is a wonderful service to our old, frail but loyal, interested members.

The second Afternoon Pilgrimage will be on Tuesday July 9th. Details will be availble shortly. Please invite friends, neighbours and visitors.....of any age!   For those who find it impossible to arrange their own transport we try our best to respond to requests for lifts: Anne Sturrock  (0131 668 3524)

Mid-week afternoon worship is especially appreciated by those who now find it difficult to come to Church on Sunday mornings.

Further dates for 2013 Afternoon Services are as follows:

Tuesday 10th September

Tuesday 12th November (Holy Communion)

In general, Zen attitude is that words and truth are incompatible, or at least that no words can capture truth.
