Care Van
One thing which a group of Mayfield Salisbury volunteers do on several evenings a month is to staff the Care Van. Bethany provides this van throughout the year. It stops at several places in the city, for example on Waverley Bridge, the Grassmarket and North Bridge. At each stopping point it serves hot soup, tea, coffee, rolls, and offers its customers the chance for a chat. Living on the streets, particularly in winter in Edinburgh, means that cold is one of the main problems for people who are homeless, so warm clothing and blankets are also made available. Frequent donations of these items are made at churches, including ours, so there is a ready supply available.
Offering to help
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with our support for the work of the Bethany Christian Trust should contact the minister, Revd Dr Sandy Forsyth (AForsyth@churchofscotland.org.uk or 0131 667 1286), who will put them in touch with our Bethany coordinator.
HATS, GLOVES, SCARVES, SOCKS
With the onset of winter, Mayfield Salisbury is appealing for warm clothing, notably hats, gloves, scarves and socks for two separate destinations. Within Edinburgh, we are scheduled to go out with the Bethany Care van twice before the New Year: in October and in December. The number of people coming to the van for soup and rolls, tea, coffee and biscuits has increased noticeably this year and shows no sign of reducing. As well as clothing, there are often more requests for blankets and sleeping bags than we can provide. Please leave donations in the entrance hall or contact
