‘Is that you off skiving again?’ I wondered how long it would be before I heard that fateful phrase once more from a certain member of the congregation, after I mentioned from the pulpit that I was going on holiday in the following week. It was not long at all. In fact, it was at the door immediately after the service. It happened every time - almost a knee- jerk reaction by this person to the thought that a minister might get holidays like any other working person. The implication was that somehow you had gone down with a severe bout of ‘lazyitis’ by taking any time off from being available, and you were thus not ................
