The Original Burghers / Old Licht Burghers met in an old Episcopal Chapel in Skinners Close (now South Gray's Close) from the year 1801.

They joined the Church of Scotland in 1839 and thereafter were called Henderson Church. At the distruption of 1843 the became part of the new Free Church of Scotland with some number joing also from Leith Wynd Chapel and Roxburgh Terrace at this point.

In 1848, the congregation moved to the former Commercial Bank building behind 142 High Street.
