NEWS AND INTIMATIONS
1. OPEN TO ALL Coffee and tea will be served in the LOWER HALL at
the close of the Sunday services. Everyone is very welcome.
2. HEARING LOOP The whole of the church is served by a hearing loop.
Users should turn their hearing aid to the setting marked T.
3. YOUTH UPDATES Youth Group will have its 'kick-off' session in the
garden (weather permitting!) for all ages (P6-S6) from 6.15-8.00pm. There
will be pizza and lots of games as we discuss the year before us as a
community. Bring a friend! If you have any questions, contact Hillary.
4. ANNUAL LEAVE Hillary Leslie, Youth Worker, will be on annual leave
from 19 - 28 August inclusive.

7. EDINBURGH PEOPLE’S THEATRE (EPT) are delighted to be back in
action after a two year absence due to the pandemic. Our Fringe offering
this year is the Scots comedy The Deil’s Awa by Alan Cochrane, a roistering
tale of smugglers and excisemen in 18th century Pittenweem. EPT are
proud to be the only theatre group remaining from the original eight that
‘gatecrashed’ the very first Edinburgh International Festival in 1947.
So, if you want to take part in the REAL EDINBURGH FRINGE do not miss
this August production In Mayfield Salisbury Church Hall (Venue 11).
Tickets are now on sale, priced at £12 (£10 concession) and are available

All performances commence at 7.30pm from Friday 5 August to Friday 19
August except Saturdays 6, 13 and 20 August which commence at 2.30pm.
(No shows Saturday evenings or Sundays.) More information is contained

8. PASTORAL CARE If you would like to have a regular home visit or
telephone call from one of our pastoral care team, please contact me and I
will arrange that for you. If you would like to be held in prayer, or would
like us to pray for someone you know, please make your request to Kay. If
you would like to participate in our confidential prayer chain praying for
these requests, please get in touch; prayer chain emails are sent out once a

9. MIDWEEK PRAYERS You are most welcome to attend a time of
peace, prayer and reflection in the church sanctuary, this Tuesday at 10.00am.
10. STUDENT WELCOME: ‘CURRY AND CONVERSATION’ EVENING AT
MAYFIELD SALISBURY CHURCH ON WEDNESDAY 14 SEPTEMBER. Mayfield
Salisbury Church has many links with the University of Edinburgh, not least
via our minister Sandy Forsyth’s on-going responsibilities at the School of
Divinity at New College. Postgraduate Students arriving in Edinburgh to
study at the School of Divinity from overseas often have few if any contacts
with locals in general and with places of worship specifically. Last year
Mayfield Salisbury Church offered these students (whatever their faith) a
warm Scottish welcome by hosting a “Curry and Conversation’ welcome
event which was well attended and much appreciated by the students.
Several took up the opportunity to link with a host family for continued
friendship and support.
This year we will repeat the welcome event with a Curry and Conversation
evening on Wednesday 14 September from 6.30 to 8.30 pm in the Bill
McDonald Hall.
We will also facilitate connecting students, should they so wish, to
‘welcome hosts’ of individuals or families from the congregation. Examples
of hosting activities might include inviting them for a meal, showing them
the local sights and joining them at church on a Sunday morning

11. THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL OF THE SACRED ARTS IN THE FRINGE
offers a wide range of events including worship, visual art, dance, music,
drama and poetry. Tickets available via the Fringe
https://tickets.edfringe.com You can pick up a leaflet in the vestibule or
halls entrance.
12. ECO BOOKS A reminder that the books in the Entrance Hall include a
shelf on those relating to environmental issues. All of these are available
for borrowing. Of the varied selection, Marjory Grant would recommend
‘We Are the Weather.’ It has an interesting slant on the ways in which we
ignore issues, from famines and conflicts to climate change, when we
consider them to be ‘over there.’ Please borrow and if you have any books
you would like to share in this way, do drop them off.
13. COFFEE AND BLETHERS Coffee and Blethers has resumed and will run
over the Summer on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of July, August and
September from 2.00pm to 3.30pm.
