NEWS AND INTIMATIONS
1. OPEN TO ALL Coffee and tea will be served in the McDonald Hall at
the close of the Sunday morning services. Everyone is most welcome.
2. FORTHCOMING SERVICE TIMES Please note we return to two morning
services from Sunday 4 September: 9.30am All-Age Worship and 10.45am
Traditional Service.
On the second last Sunday of each month, there will be a single joint
service at 10.30am. Additionally, on these dates, there will be an Evening
Service (time TBC).
Next Sunday, 28 August, the service begins at 10.30am.
3. GRAPEVINE PARISH MAGAZINE DEADLINE The deadline for
submissions of articles for the September edition of Grapevine is this
Friday, 26 August, at 6.00pm. All articles and news items are very welcome.

4. HEARING LOOP The whole of the church is served by a hearing loop.
Users should turn their hearing aid to the setting marked T.
5. YOUTH UPDATES Sunday 4 September: Youth Group will have its
'kick-off' session in the garden (weather permitting!) for all ages (P6-S6)
from 6.15-8.00pm. There will be pizza and lots of games as we discuss the
year before us as a community. Bring a friend! If you have any questions,
contact Hillary.
6. ANNUAL LEAVE Hillary Leslie, Youth Worker, will be on annual leave
from 19 - 28 August inclusive.
7. THE ECO GROUP is meeting in the Bill McDonald Hall at 7.30pm on
Thursday 25 August. Anyone interested in environmental issues is very
welcome to join this lively and friendly group that evening. No further
commitment involved!
A reminder that the books in the Entrance Hall include a shelf on those
relating to environmental issues. All of these are available for borrowing.
Of the varied selection, Marjory Grant would recommend ‘We Are the
Weather.’ It has an interesting slant on the ways in which we ignore issues,
from famines and conflicts to climate change, when we consider them to be
‘over there.’ Please borrow and if you have any books you would like to
share in this way, do drop them off
8. JEAN’S KILTWALK I will be walking 14 miles on September 18 and
fundraising for Edinburgh Street Pastors. You may like to donate at

9. PASTORAL CARE If you would like to have a regular home visit or
telephone call from one of our pastoral care team, please contact me and I

10. MIDWEEK PRAYERS You are most welcome to attend a time of
peace, prayer and reflection in the church sanctuary, this Tuesday at 10.00am.
11. STUDENT WELCOME: ‘CURRY AND CONVERSATION’ EVENING AT
MAYFIELD SALISBURY CHURCH ON WEDNESDAY 14 SEPTEMBER. Mayfield
Salisbury Church has many links with the University of Edinburgh, not least
via our minister Sandy Forsyth’s on-going responsibilities at the School of
Divinity at New College. Postgraduate Students arriving in Edinburgh to
study at the School of Divinity from overseas often have few if any contacts
with locals in general and with places of worship specifically. Last year
Mayfield Salisbury Church offered these students (whatever their faith) a
warm Scottish welcome by hosting a “Curry and Conversation’ welcome
event which was well attended and much appreciated by the students.
Several took up the opportunity to link with a host family for continued
friendship and support.
This year we will repeat the welcome event with a Curry and Conversation
evening on Wednesday 14 September from 6.30 to 8.30 pm in the Bill
McDonald Hall.
We will also facilitate connecting students, should they so wish, to
‘welcome hosts’ of individuals or families from the congregation. Examples
of hosting activities might include inviting them for a meal, showing them
the local sights and joining them at church on a Sunday morning

12. COFFEE AND BLETHERS Coffee and Blethers has resumed and will run
over the Summer on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of July, August and
September from 2.00pm to 3.30pm.

Giving Page all the usual protocols and safeguards are still operative.
The Kirk Session wishes to express its continuing gratitude to those who
support the Church's work through their offerings. Covid restrictions have
prevented circulation of the ‘plate’ during services but those who would
have wished to use it may make use of the bowls marked ‘Plate Collection’
situated in the vestibule and halls entrance, at the close of the service .
